Chief Seattle:
“This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.”

This curriculum or manual explores the symbols and ceremonies of the Native American culture. We can look back and see the destruction we have brought to our indigenous people. Tribal traditions and ceremonies were forbidden and therefore either lost or kept secret until a time, our ancestors say, to be brought forth and shared to all races of people. We are here to learn from each other. Our true purpose on earth is to learn to understand, respect and love one another and all life. It is imperative that we envision the future and the world we will leave for our children and our children’s children. So, we need to create peace amongst ourselves, and enliven the beauty of the earth, not destroy it and each other in the process.
Therefore, I share these Native traditions with you in the hope they will create a bridge and open a new portal in the understanding of the Red Race. I hope they will inspire all to return to a sacred way of living.
